Duration: 4 Hours
Bring your favorite Turkish dishes home!
Learn how to make the same delicious dishes you've encountered during your time in Turkey. When we say "make yourself at home," we really mean it! Prepare and enjoy a gourmet menu under the personal guidance of a chef in their own home.
This fun and authentic culinary experience begins with meeting your guide (at your port or hotel) and continues with a walk through the Spice Bazaar, a bustling market of herbs, spices, and other traditional Turkish novelties. Often referred to as the "Egyptian Market," the Spice Bazaar got its name for being the last stop on the Silk Road – as many of the gourmet goods coming in from India and Southeast Asia came through Egypt and were traded here before going to Europe.
Then, you’ll take a leisurely ferry ride across the Bosphorus to the Asian side of Istanbul to explore the energetic open-air street market of Kadikoy. You’ll notice the difference in atmosphere between the old-world Spice Market and Kadikoy, which is more in tune with the way most people in Istanbul cook and eat today.
In Kadikoy, you can indulge in the market’s huge variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables. You’ll have an authentic, real-life bazaar experience, weaving through the fishmongers, bakers, butchers, and grocers singing out to attract you to their daily specials. Take your time and explore the many pastry shops, Turkish delight stands, cheese vendors, and even honey dealers! A true “foodie’s dream,” there’s plenty to see and buy, and to photograph.
Now, it’s time to visit the chef, who is also your host, as she welcomes you to her home for the day’s feast. We’ll begin with a demonstration on the basics of Mediterranean olive oil-based cooking, the foundation of Turkish cuisine and for our meal.
From there, the lesson is "hands-on and hands-in." Whether it's you and a partner, or you and five other friends, our chef will guide you in making everything from the appetizers to the after-hours sweets, all from scratch.
Highlights of this custom culinary experience:
A demonstration on the basics of olive oil-based cooking
A variety of meze, or cold and hot appetizers, served in small portions.
