Discover natural beauty and  historic coastal sites aboard a gulet on the Turquoise Coast

Day 1: Dalyan town, Iztuzu Beach, ancient Caunos, and gulet yacht embarkation in Ekincik Cove
Upon arrival in the town of Dalyan, chug up the Dalyan River in a small boat through a maze of bamboo and cattails to the ancient site of Caunos, a now silted-up port that was once a hub for the export of salt and slaves. Hellenistic city walls, several temples, a Roman-era theater, a Byzantine church, and a Crusader fortress high on the Acropolis reveal its varied history. We will not be hiking to the site itself but we will be able to view the incredibly dramatic rock-cut tombs of Lydian and Carian kings.  You’ll also visit the nearby Dalyan Estuary, home to many species of birds, including kingfishers, heron, and egrets. We’ll also visit Iztuzu Beach – a protected site because of the endangered loggerhead sea turtles that lay their eggs here in midsummer months. We’ll provide a transfer to the harbor where you’ll board your private gulet yacht and be welcomed by your friendly crew, who will take care of you throughout your time aboard.  Before dinner, you’ll have an orientation and a briefing about your itinerary.  We’ll overnight in a beautiful cove near Ekincik. (D)

Day 2:  Agalimani & Tersane Coves and Cleopatra's Sunken Baths
This morning, enjoy breakfast onboard as we set sail towards Fethiye Bay, stopping for swimming and snorkeling in Agalimani and Tersane Coves. Later, visit the partially-submerged Cleopatra’s Sunken Baths in Gocek Lagoon, which, according to tradition, is the spot where the fabled Egyptian queen and Mark Antony had a romantic rendezvous. Here, we will enjoy dinner on the open deck and drop anchor for the night. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Gocek Coves
This morning, you’ll have time for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and relaxing in this stunning cove, where we will also have a delicious lunch.   Afterwards, we’ll head ashore to explore ancient Lydian ruins at a special and rarely-visited site reachable only by sea.  Dramatic rock-cut tombs, a sacred spring, Byzantine-era cisterns, and ruins of temples as well as an oracle dedicated to Apollo all await. Pieces of broken cult statues are all around, hidden as they have been for untold centuries. The views we’ll have during this hike on pine and laurel tree-shaded trails are magnificent: vistas of Fethiye Bay and sparkling Gocek Lagoon. Meet your gulet and, winds permitting, we’ll raise sails and cruise onto our next destination, gliding by the 12 Islands chain, and numerous other coves and isles spread across the bay.  We’ll sail on to Bedri Rahmi Cove for another peaceful overnight stay. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Fethiye and Kayakoy
Following breakfast, set sail for Fethiye and anchor in a secluded cove for lunch.  Later in the afternoon, we will arrive in the town of Fethiye, where you will have some free time to visit its marketplaces for souvenir shopping before our transfer to the Greek village of Kayakoy. A thriving town of 3,500 until 1923, when Ataturk instituted the exchange of Greek and Turkish populations, Kayakoy became a ghost town overnight, even more ruined over the years by subsequent earthquakes. Only a few Turkish families inhabit houses at the bottom of the town’s rolling hills; it’s an eerie and marvelous place. We will then transfer you back to the yacht and sail to another tranquil cove near Fethiye for your last night at sea. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Fethiye and Return to Istanbul
This morning we sail across beautiful Fethiye Bay.  Later, you’ll bid farewell to your crew and have some time in the seaside town of Fethiye, (known in ancient times as Telmessos) and its colorful farmers market (if time permits) before you head to your next destination. (B)
